Late February 2003 marks the beginning of a journey for four young
men. That was when longtime friends Derek Poe (lead vocals/guitar),
Lucas Larson (backing vocals/guitar), and Ryan VanSickle (bass),
picked up their instruments and decided to form a Christian rock
band named Riding Shotgun. However, the rock band couldn’t
exactly be a band without a drummer.
Enter the pastor’s son and youth band
drummer, Landon Temke. Finally the guys could call themselves a
band. After a month of practice for a Christian Fine Arts Competition,
which the band failed to win, it was time for them to take their
music seriously. Derek and Lucas began to write songs with a passion
for reaching out to those who hadn’t experienced the love
of Christ and sharing that love with them. Following months of practice,
writing, and a summer that included several opportunities to perform,
the guys finally got the chance to record some of their music.
The final product was a four song demo that
the band felt pretty good about. Now, the guys are focusing on setting
up their equipment wherever someone will let them play and spreading
their music to anybody who will listen. They want to show the world
that riding shotgun in the “vehicle” of this life is
alright when God is driving. |
